“Link-Friendly” : A Working Definition

Date of Origin: 1998 (when Google rolled out their citation-ranking algorithm to the public)

Definition No. 1 : of, relating to, or befitting a web page someone would want to link to :  not hostile to potential webmaster looking to link out to content

Example: “That video of your boss slurring at the company party is very link-friendly!”

Definition No. 2: easy to use or understand, and therefor worth sharing or citing

Example: “That video tutorial on how to fight off a rabid bear came in real handy. I think I’ll link to it once I regain the use of my extremities.”

Definition No. 3: compatible and accommodating to a particular webmaster

Example: “Since a representative of the company reached out to me (via email, phone, twitter, etc…) to explain the news release and its significance, I was more than happy to link to it from my news page and include some descriptive anchor text.”

Synonym: link-amicable

Example: “If you want to succeed at SEO in the long run, you’ll need to start building out some link-amicable content that will facilitate our link-building outreach efforts as well as allowing us to target tons of long-tail search queries.”
